SHOULD SCHOOLS BAN HOMEWORK
When it comes to the topic of should schools ban homework we reached out to students of all ages to get their opinion on homework and how it affects their everyday lives. Most students agree that homework can be over whelming and cause them to feel the pressure to do well on the given assignment especially if it is being taken up for a grade. While researching we found that often times instead of homework helping children, it is often accused for helping children learn how to cheat and manipulate their way out of a problem by not having to do the work face on face with the teacher. We also asked teachers if they believe if homework has any affects on standardized testing and if they believe that the amount of homework they give every night will help their students become more successful when it comes time to take SAT’s or ACT’s for getting into college. Research found that standardized test and homework have no direct correlation, however homework can help in the case of studying and trying to prepare your-self for a standardized test.

Artist Statement-Why Schools Should Ban Homework
Introduction
This project has been super exciting for me to do as an education major the subject of homework hit close to home for me, I believe in homework but I also believe that too much is not a good thing like the famous saying “less is more”, that really applies to this topic. Why schools should ban homework is a huge issue going on in education, along with many other things people find that homework can be overwhelming and a bit much when it comes to your average second grader have three and four hours of homework each night, on top of all that homework most kids participate in extra curriculum activates which can cause conflict with homework schedules. Homework can be a great tool used by teachers to help improve test scores and also help prepare children for up coming years in school, however homework is also a known factor to helping children or any age students learn how to cheat. Students come home and have piles of homework but may not remember exactly how to do the problems given, with homework counting as grades for most teachers students are terrified to go back the next day and not have all of their homework complete so instead the get on the internet and Google the answer, which in return starts a cycle of learning to cheat for good grades on their homework.
Purpose
I chose two different genre pieces to explain my beliefs of Why Schools Should Ban Homework. My first genre piece is an informative poster. I chose a bright pink background for the poster so that it would first attract the eyes of many, because whether people like it or not homework is a topic that has affected all of us in someway and some point in our lives. The poster also has bug and bold words for the title so that the audience can see what the issue is on, I include pictures of students who are excited about their good grades on their homework, a picture of a stressed out child because he simply does not get or cannot remember the homework, and it has become so overwhelming with the amount that he has. I also have a picture of a sweet family spending time together and children outside playing and enjoying the life of being a child. Beside each picture is a brief description of how homework plays a role in each of the images. I believe my poster will be viewed by a large group of people.
My second genre piece is a newspaper editorial, I started off trying to make this look as much like a real newspaper editorial as possible. I found a name for the newspaper and the made a subtitle for the article. In my article I got on to talk about how homework can cause children to learn to cheat and how homework has no direct correlation with SAT scores like many teachers and educators may think it does. I use logos and pathos with facts and personal opinions being placed into my article. You can find lots of good information in newspaper editorials that are also credible with reliable sources. I chose this because editorial pieces have very good information and they are easy and quick reads.
Audience
My two genre pieces for this project appeal to teachers, students, and parents who have to deal with homework on a day-to-day bias. These people have strong opinions about homework whether it is good or bad but that still fell that they have a voice and it should be heard. My genres appeal to the audiences of different ages, my poster will appeal more to younger children of more bright and kinesthetic learns but the counterpart genre of my poster which is my editorial will appeal to more if the serious and visual and auditorial learners who like to sit down and listen to lectures and obtain facts. When making genres it is important that you think very carefully about your audience and how you are going to draw them in with your pieces and with the topic you chose. Your audience plays the staring role in how well your genres go and how much of a hit your topic is. So when choosing both my genres and my topic I thought very carefully about how I could reel readers in and make the want t stand up for their belief no matter the side they chose with this topic, also same with my genres I wanted to make sure all ages were included when it came down to using a poster and my editorial.
Rhetorical Appeals
I have done tons of research on my topic, using many credible sources from the library and also many opinions from teacher parents and students themselves. I find it very interesting and also as an education major I feel as it helps if I have a better understand on this topic, as it will be brought up in years to come as I have my own students one day. In my genre pieces I include lots of facts from credible sites I also took in information form surveys and may poll questions
Modes of media
The 2 genres I chose are a Poster, and a newspaper editorial. I believe these are very good and creative ways to express the information. Posters are fun and attract smaller children where as editorials are more serious and attract more older and informative people.

Step 7 CIP- Research Proposal
1. What the topic of your inquiry is (Look at the example in the reading to see how Jasmine Huerta discusses her topic).
A: Our topic is “Should Schools ban Homework?” Based on grade level, and how it may affect family time and the physical activity level of children.
2.What questions your project is trying to answer?
A: Is homework at an advantage or a disadvantage to students, and how does it affect home life of the student, also is there a certain age that is affected more or less by homework.
3. What is the rhetorical situation of your general group project
A: Our project is for the benefit of teachers, student, and parents who want to understand the affects of homework and how it can help or hinder education. The importance of our topic is that every person spends 17 + years in school while doing piles of home work and it becomes apart of our everyday lifestyle to come home sit down and continue to work after you have worked all day.
4. Which genre each person of the group is doing and how does the genre address the questions your inquiry is trying to answer.
A: We split our subject into background, different school levels, and family life. McKenzie – Prezi, and Poster (background)
Trey- Collage and Magazine article (Elementary grades)
Kalila- Survey and Paper (college)
Cameron- Interview and Prezi (secondary grades)
Michaela- Collage and Interview (family life)
5. Based on #3, where will it be housed, facebook page, a website, a newsletter, etc.
A: We will place it on a Weebly webstie.
